A few days ago, I encountered an error saying ‘the task was canceled by a user’, when I tried to deploy a OVF template using VMware vsphere client. When I first glanced at this this error message, I though my deployment operation was interrupted by an administrator. But after I contacted the administrator, I was told nobody was doing administrative task when I did the OVF template operation. I tried several times. The error continued to appear constantly. That’s weird.
After struggling for a while, I found the root cause to this issue. It is about the DVD-CD device. When I export the OVF template of the virtual machine, I forgot to remove the DVD device, which records the location of one remote ISO file. The DVD device in the OVF template caused this error. Finally I exported the OVF template again after removing the DVD device. The OVF template deployment worked finally.
I suggest the VMware company can improve this kind of error message. For example, an error message reporting ‘a remote ISO file in DVD device can’t be reached’ or something like will be good. The error message I encountered is really confusing people.
